Canada is facing a grim economic outlook. For the 2023 budget, the federal government has been urged to show fiscal restraint and include tax measures that can generate much-needed revenue to cut the federal deficit and national debt. Can this be achieved and can 2022 policies withstand 2023 challenges? Chris Mines is joined by DT Cochrane, an economist, and researcher with Canadians for Tax Fairness. They highlight some of the policies in the 2022 Fall Economic Statement, how to strengthen budget transparency, and steps to make fiscal policies more reactive to complex challenges. Some of the topics covered in this course include: Housing affordability, inflation, and labour shortages Assessing existing legislation and government procedures Pre-budget consultations and strengthening transparency An outlook for the months ahead and more!
