About This Course

Successful entrepreneurs understand that entrepreneurship is a process that can be learned and improved upon with experience. This course provides a series of lectures that guide an aspiring entrepreneur through steps that will greatly increase their chance to successfully turning their idea into a successful business. This course can be used as a step by step manual to walk an entrepreneur through the process of launching a venture.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn what entrepreneurship is and who are typical entrepreneurs.
  2. Understand how opportunities for new businesses arise in the market and how to spot them
  3. Learn how to assess the difference between an idea and a real business opportunity
  4. Learn how to build a business model, how to test it, and how to adapt it to what the market really wants
  5. Understand what business plans are used for and how to construct a winning plan
  6. Gain a realistic understanding of what methods of financing make sense for your business

Dr. Jeff Cornwall is the inaugural recipient of the Jack C. Massey Chair in Entrepreneurship and Professor of Entrepreneurship at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He also was founding director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Belmont, and led the Center for the first ten years of its operation. He has a Doctorate in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of Kentucky. In the late 1980’s, Dr. Cornwall left academics for a nine year “sabbatical” to become the co-founder and President/CEO of Atlantic Behavioral Health Systems, headquartered in Raleigh, NC. Dr. Cornwall has received national awards for his work in curriculum development and teaching, and in 2013 he was named the National Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year by the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He has published ten books and numerous articles on entrepreneurship.

Is this course eligible for my CPD requirements as a Canadian CPA?

Provincial regulators of CPAs in Canada do not require that independent providers of CPD be approved to offer courses. Instead, individual CPAs are responsible for assessing whether a CPD activity meets their requirements, and may take activities from any source provided those requirements are met.
