Office of the Pay Equity Commissioner
In Canada, the Pay Equity Act has been in force since August 31, 2021. The Act ensures equal pay for work of equal value and calls on federally regulated employers to proactively implement pay equity within their workplaces. The Pay Equity Commissioner administers and enforces the Pay Equity Act by leading the Pay Equity Unit, within the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The Pay Equity Unit resolves disputes, ensures compliance with the Act, and provides tools and guidance to employers, employees and their representatives. We are also the go-to for regulatory and policy expertise related to compliance and enforcement of the Pay Equity Act.

Amanda joined the Office of the Pay Equity Commissioner in 2020 and has been working on advancing pay equity in federally regulated workplaces since then. Prior, she worked at the Labour Program in various roles, including doing research and crafting policy concerning workplace violence and harassment which contributed to legislative changes in the Canada Labour Code. Her focus has always been on matters pertaining to gender equality. She was a joint lead during her time at the Labour Program’s Innovation Unit for the 2019 Symposium on Women in the Workplace. She also worked at the Gender Based Analysis Centre of Expertise and coordinated ESDCs first submission on Gender Budgeting.
Provincial regulators of CPAs in Canada do not require that independent providers of CPD be approved to offer courses. Instead, individual CPAs are responsible for assessing whether a CPD activity meets their requirements, and may take activities from any source provided those requirements are met.
