Learn how to use the world’s most popular tool for analyzing and reporting on data.

Excel 365 is the foundation for almost every kind of data work, from tracking a simple budget to building reports that summarize hundreds of records. This course introduces the Excel workspace and shows new users how to move through it with confidence, starting with the ribbon, the formula bar, the name box, and the worksheet tabs that organize a workbook. From there it builds the core habits of accurate data entry, including using Enter and Tab to commit data, referencing cells rather than typing fixed values so that related cells update on their own, and reading the order of operations that Excel follows when it calculates a formula. The goal is a working command of the interface and the everyday tools that every later skill depends on.
The program covers the difference between a workbook, a worksheet, and a cell, and explains functions, the AutoSum tool, fill series, and cell styles. It walks through writing formulas with the standard operators for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, all built on the equal sign that begins every formula, and it applies the order of operations known as PEMDAS to keep results correct. Participants learn efficient navigation and selection, the shortcut keys for formatting and editing, and practical fixes for common situations such as widening a column to clear the number sign display. The course closes with creating a basic chart, including the row and column headings so the chart carries proper labels.
Learning Objectives
This course is designed for new Excel users and those returning after a break. It assumes no prior experience with the application and reflects the features available in the 2025 version of Excel 365.

Provincial regulators of CPAs in Canada do not require that independent providers of CPD be approved to offer courses. Instead, individual CPAs are responsible for assessing whether a CPD activity meets their requirements, and may take activities from any source provided those requirements are met.
Every course offered on LearnFormula is delivered by a qualified subject matter expert or learning organization, and advances learning objectives that are relevant to the responsibilities or professional competencies of Canadian CPAs. All activities on LearnFormula are quantifiable in terms of hours, and are also verifiable, in that users receive documented evidence of their attendance via a certificate of completion after finishing a course (and this certificate is stored by LearnFormula indefinitely). Nearly 100,000 Canadian CPAs successfully satisfy their CPD requirements via LearnFormula on an annual basis.
