Provincial regulators of CPAs in Canada do not require that independent providers of CPD be approved to offer courses. Instead, individual CPAs are responsible for assessing whether a CPD activity meets their requirements, and may take activities from any source provided those requirements are met.

I worked for a private owner who wanted to create a valuation for his organization to drive a sale price. When reviewing 3 prior years (years 2-4) including the current year I was hired in (which had very different bottom lines) it came to my attention that he had directed my predecessor (who was not designated) to push expenses forward to the next year to create a very stable years 1-3 valuation. So I provided him with re-stated FS to correct for this. He wasn't happy and wanted me to pull out stores that had been underperforming and subsequently closed. I did with documented notes to the adjustments for discussion only. When he pressured me further I declined. His business partner (also a CPA) was present and I told him I would not do what he asked being unethical, and possibly fraudulent. They backed off when I sited my designation and legal/fiduciary responsibilities (they still haven't sold the company and I have moved on)
