Follow with Passion

“Leading with passion”…. It’s hard to find anyone who would disagree. Leaders with true talent and passion marshal their charges with relentless conviction. But what about following with passion?

Each one of us is a multitasker and that holds true for leadership. Leading for some and for others we follow. If you are a parent, you live this every day. Most of us have a boss and most likely someone that is beholden to us. We stick our necks out and watch others do the same.

How do we respond when our leaders take that risk….when they make a sincere effort to unite and communicate?  Do we mock, ridicule or simply dismiss it as something corny? We know that social media is riddled with anonymous hawkers of hate, but often times it’s something more subtle… a look, an eyeroll, or just silence.

We must remind ourselves that no message is perfect, no effort without flaws.  If those that lead make a spirited and sincere effort to bring us together, then we have an obligation to bring an equal level of energy. Positive leadership is hard to sustain when everyone is armed with rotten tomatoes.

Great corporate culture doesn’t blossom overnight….it’s built brick by brick. Regardless of whether you’re 18 or 80 it matters not. It’s that diversity of opinions and experiences which can create something special. It simply takes effort, goodwill, and an open mind.

Whether we lead or follow, we can all contribute in a positive way.  What will you be doing with your brick?
