How to prioritize time to achieve your CPD/CPE goals

So we are motivated to now complete the most important aspects of our development and all that is left to do is to construct a simple plan of time available, when it is available and what to do in that time. This is the easy part as it’s a mathematical and logistical plot.

After plotting these numbers, we must set the goals and this is not as easy as it sounds. The reason being, that there are differing types of goals. In high performance, we call these outcome goals, performance goals, and process goals.

A simple example from an elite athlete that I work with would suffice here:

Mr. X wanted gold at an upcoming special event. It was forecasted that to win gold, needed a track time of 43 seconds. His time this year was 45 seconds. Let’s help him construct a plan.

Outcome Goal: To win the gold medal at this event in 43 seconds.

Performance Goal: To reduce 2 seconds from his time in 2 years.

Process Goals: Look at stride patterns, breathing strategies, confidence levels, and diet.

This is a simple version because there were 3 actions per process goal and if we achieved all the process goals then the performance goal would also be achieved and if the performance goal came in at 43 seconds then the outcome goal of a gold medal would almost be guaranteed. Note I say almost guaranteed. The reason is that there are always controllables in life and we always set a Plan B and C but sometimes it is just not meant to be.

So in conclusion, time management for completing your professional requirements is not an easy one to solve. You can fudge it and scrape by right at the end of the year or you can embrace it to become better today than you were yesterday.

The right mindset will be clear, focused, and determined. You will have a well-structured plan that you created and you will consider each section to be important and to be completed through an approach motivation. Once each section is completed you get a git of dopamine which feels good and ignites you even more for the next one.

Good luck with your CPD/CPE journey and these Courses may help.
